Cannon Music Camp is presenting a special opportunity for music students in 2021. Cannon Music Camp will offer completely free online/remote masterclasses as an innovative way to support music through the summer and prepare students for a return to school in the fall. Recorded by Cannon Music Camp and Appalachian State faculty, these asynchronous masterclasses are designed to enrich students' musical knowledge and prepare them for future auditions. Masterclasses are free and no registration is required. SUMMER FUN WITH STRINGS (Ages 5-12) Violin, viola, cello or bass? Pick your favorite and learn to play it! Beginners will learn the fundamentals of these beautiful string instruments as they are guided by our experienced and enthusiastic string faculty. Intermediate students work together as a group to advance their skills through a variety of fun and challenging music. This is an IN PERSON CAMP. A camp t-shirt and daily snack are included. SUMMER STRINGS INTENSIVE (Grades 6-12) With the guidance of FSPA string faculty, students will have the chance to participate in an ability-level string orchestra, sectionals, and technique-building classes. Students with intermediate experience will be able to work on advancing their technique, building skills like vibrato and shifting. Advanced students will be able to work on advancing their ensemble skills. The instruction is intense, but the benefits will be visible as students gain an edge in advancing skills. This is a great local and affordable alternative to overnight music camps. This is a virtual camp. A camp t-shirt and camp kit are included. The 18th season of Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival will take place in Burlington, Vermont, for four weeks. This intensive solo and chamber music program welcomes 200 college, grad, and high-school musicians into an atmosphere of focused professionalism, with four hours daily individual practice, daily chamber music rehearsal, six lessons, six ensemble coachings, master classes, faculty concert series, and extensive student performance opportunities. The program fosters the growth of committed young violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists within a warm, supportive community. Levine Strings Camp (ages 8-18).  Levine’s Strings Camp is a great opportunity for violinists, violists, and cellists to make music in a fun virtual environment. Designed to broaden a student’s musical experience and reinforce individual development, the camp provides students with the opportunity to work with some of the area’s leading professional musicians. For Suzuki and Traditional students alike, the camp is designed to develop well-rounded musicians over the course of the week. The Strathgheny School of Scottish Fiddling (July 11-17, 2021) is ONLINE again this summer. Featuring two nationally recognized Scottish fiddling pedagogue/performers, this immersive camp is for violin, viola, and cello players ages 14+.  This includes 33+ hours of instruction in the art of traditional Scottish fiddling, all music, piano accompaniment tracks, full concerts, private lessons with both instructors, and evening activities. Videos of all of the classes will be available afterwards for asynchronous viewing as well.  No prior fiddling experience is necessary and tunes are taught by BOTH music and ear.  We offer continuing education credit hours for PA teachers (Act 48) and will write appropriate letters for teachers who attend from outside of PA.
